| Business and Business Economy
Many employees in this generation have learned to work the system, because they’ve had control of their employers. It’s been an employee’s market too long in the business field. With the existing economic problems starting out in 2008, it may well be worth your time to evaluate present employees and make some tough decisions. Problem employees exist in all venues of business and it sounds easy to fire them or quietly remove them from your business, but that’s an added expense that businesses don’t need right now. So consider taking the existing employee in hand, accelerate their training, monitor their performance and see if you in fact can’t create an employee that is a benefit to your company. If nothing works, you have no alternative but to let him or her go – which means finding a replacement as soon as possible. Several things you may want to consider if you’re plagues with employees who aren’t performing; (1) Re-vise your hiring process, (2) Brush up on interviewing techniques, and (3) Re-write employee job descriptions itemizing and describing computer use, breaks, excessive time off and your companies expectations. The government, disgruntled employees and the meddlers have managed to place employers in a little box with very little tools to run a business, because they don’t want us to expect too much from our workabees! This scenario is in fact a parallel to what was done in our school systems – too many misguided parents, the government and lawsuits have literally removed all discipline from our schools. This is what many businesses are experiencing in their employee workforce – a ridiculous imbalance has been created that only hurts our country as a whole. Businesses not only have responsibilities, they should have some “rights” too and they need the governments support to put the employer and employee relationship back to a logical balance. The will be a day when businesses will have to take a time-out and fix the imbalance that exists between employers and employees. None of us have time or the desire to hand hold and coddle employees when they’re abusing the system. |
