Business Economy 2008

Everyone has an idea where business are headed or should be headed in the new - year. Possibility of recession hits our ears, Merrill Lynch suffers huge loss (the first time in 90 some years), the war in Iraq still exists and gas prices seem doomed to be on the rise again. But, there’s light at the end of the tunnel!

It may be wise to tighten your belt and prepare for a sluggish economy, but in the meantime let’s consider the past gone forever and tomorrow promises to be a new day. Let’s look at some positive indicators; jobless claims fell to an unexpected low, which means the labor market appears to be recovering health-wise.

Whether we are headed for a recession or not, businesses who haven’t been minding their cash-flow or doing good business will probably fall by the wayside allowing the stronger, well established businesses to be even better than in the year 2007. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that many businesses are out to scam the consumer and need to disappear.

Whatever direction you have decided for your business, the bottom line is treat your customers with respect giving them value for their dollars spent. Accelerate your training program for employees (new and old) allowing them to be the best they can be and keep a tight rein on cash flow. Maybe revise or adjust short - term goals more often as the business economy ebbs and flows.

Business in 2008 could actually be the best in many years, because economy forces us to be the very best that we can be – no more sliding along on our good name and well established business as a saving grace. The good business will most likely thrive and the bad businesses are just a thorn in consumer’s sides and they certainly won’t be missed.
